Description

The General Workers will assist the team leader with waste water collection work, including the clearing of sewer blockages. The position requires physically fit and capable individuals who can perform general maintenance tasks within the waste water collection network.

Responsibilities

• Clear sewer blockages
• Excavate and backfill trenches using shovels, pickaxes, rakes, and rammers to repair sewer network pipes
• Load and unload equipment, materials, and tools from the plumber’s truck
• Operate water pumping equipment
• Assist the supervisor with aligning and fitting water pipe sections during repairs
• Hand tools and equipment to supervisors
• Clean the workplace after job completion
• Clean and load tools
• Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993)
• Clean the depot and wash the plumber’s truck or vehicle

Qualifications

• Ability to perform duties
• Basic literacy
• Relevant experience in general maintenance of a waste water collection network will be an added advantage
• Physically fit and healthy, with no back problems
• Must undergo a criminal record check (fingerprints will be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost)
• Willingness and ability to work shifts, standby, and overtime on request
